won’t you be my neighbor? Inviting birds to your landscape May 17, 2019

with avian ecologist Kim grveles

From songbirds to sandhill cranes, chickadees to broadwing hawks, birds are a critical component to the health of the St. Croix River Valley and its communities. On Friday, May 17th at 7 p.m., join fellow landowners, public leaders, and community members in learning about the ecological significance of birds and how we can restore and protect bird habitat in our watershed. Retired WI DNR avian ecologist Kim Grveles will introduce you to key residential and migratory birds and outline strategies for healthy bird habitat management. This presentation is hosted by The Horst Rechelbacher Foundation.

Birding Walk at Lily Springs Farm

Join avian ecologist Kim Grveles on a morning stroll around Lily Springs Farm, identifying resident and migratory birds on the property and discussing responsible bird habitat management practices. Listen to the land come alive as you learn to recognize frequent visitors to the St. Croix River Valley.

The walk will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 10 a.m,. on Saturday, May 18th.

GROW YOUR OWN MUSHROOMS: Mushroom Cultivation April 27, 2019

with Tavis lynch of Tavis’s mushrooms

Learn about growing shiitake mushrooms on logs with local fungi expert, Tavis Lynch, author of the book "Mushroom Cultivation" and owner of Tavis's Mushrooms. Participants will get a hands-on experience inoculating logs and information on how to successfully grow these delicious mushrooms on their own property. Everyone will go home with their own inoculated shiitake log. Oyster mushroom, wine cap mushroom, and a few other will also be discussed in great detail. Camp beez kneez Fridays, April - October, 2019

with Kristy Lynn Allen of THe Beez Kneez

Camp Beez Kneez is a 14 week, hands-on beekeeping course focused on sustainable and organic beekeeping techniques for successful overwintering in northern climates. Manage a hive May-October with guidance from professional beekeeper, Kristy Lynn Allen of The Beez Kneez. Classes will be held on Fridays from 2-4pm at Lily Springs Farm from April through October. Orientation will be held in Minneapolis at The Beez Kneez Honey House on April 7th, and onsite classes begin in May. Registration closes Friday, April 5th!
