GROW YOUR OWN MUSHROOMS: Mushroom Cultivation April 27, 2019

with Tavis lynch of Tavis’s mushrooms

Learn about growing shiitake mushrooms on logs with local fungi expert, Tavis Lynch, author of the book "Mushroom Cultivation" and owner of Tavis's Mushrooms. Participants will get a hands-on experience inoculating logs and information on how to successfully grow these delicious mushrooms on their own property. Everyone will go home with their own inoculated shiitake log. Oyster mushroom, wine cap mushroom, and a few other will also be discussed in great detail. Participants should dress for the weather and bring safety glasses and a lunch. Learn more and check out the event on Facebook!

Camp beez kneez Fridays, April - October, 2019

with Kristy Lynn Allen of THe Beez Kneez

Camp Beez Kneez is a 14 week, hands-on beekeeping course focused on sustainable and organic beekeeping techniques for successful overwintering in northern climates. Manage a hive May-October with guidance from professional beekeeper, Kristy Lynn Allen of The Beez Kneez. Classes will be held on Fridays from 2-4pm at Lily Springs Farm from April through October. Orientation will be held in Minneapolis at The Beez Kneez Honey House on April 7th, and onsite classes begin in May. Registration closes Friday, April 5th! won’t you be my neighbor? Inviting birds to your landscape May 17 & 18, 2019

with avian ecologist Kim grveles

For landowners, property managers, bird nerds, and curious community members: Lily Springs Farm and the Horst Rechelbacher Foundation are hosting two bird ecology events to raise awareness for bird habitat protection. Join us at the Horst Rechelbacher Foundation on the evening of May 17th for a presentation about bird habitat management with avian ecologist Kim Grveles. The following morning, walk the Lily Springs Farm grounds as Kim identifies resident and migratory birds and the ongoing habitat restoration work that is supporting a healthier avian community along the St. Croix River.
